Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy, also known as Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, has been recognized as one of the top 100 most influential individuals of 2024 by Times Magazine.
Times magazine’s statement on Wednesday, April 17, emphasised, “We spend months deliberating on who merits a place in the TIME100, identifying those who have significantly shaped the narratives of the past year.”
In a heartfelt tribute to Burna Boy, Grammy-winning singer Angelique Kidjo remarked, “Burna Boy has transformed a vision into a global reality. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant beats of Nigerian folk music and steeped in the traditions of Africa’s legendary singer-songwriters, he carries on the legacy of icons like Fela Kuti—both a celebrated Afrobeats artist and a powerful activist.”
Burna Boy’s distinctive style and infectious rhythms have captivated audiences worldwide, marking several milestones: in 2023, he became the first African artist to sell out a U.S. stadium, and in 2024, he made history as the inaugural Afrobeats artist to perform at the Grammys.
Kidjo added, “He is a trailblazer, shaping history in real-time. A new generation across the continent now looks to him for inspiration and guidance.”
