Ghanaian musician Kwame Yogot has named Shatta Wale, the self-proclaimed king of dancehall, as his main inspiration in the music industry.
In an interview with Fiifi Pratt on Kingdom FM, Yogot expressed his commitment to achieving the same level of success, recognition, and a loyal fanbase as Shatta Wale.
Yogot explained that he finds Shatta Wale’s career and life journey particularly relatable, which influenced his choice of role model.
He stated, “For now, I would say that my role model is Shatta Wale. Yes, it is Shatta Wale. Before I can take a breather in my career, I should be able to attain the level of Shatta Wale.
“I mean who else should I emulate? I have learnt a lot of things from him, to be honest, before deciding to take up music, I had to understand him for a while,” Kwame Yogot told Fiifi Pratt.
One of the key lessons Yogot has adopted from Shatta Wale is developing a thick skin.
“I used to be offended and used to reply insults from fans and internet users, but I reckoned that even my role model, Shatta Wale occasionally comes under backlash, so why should I be offended.”
He shared that he used to be easily offended by negative comments and insults, but watching Shatta Wale handle criticism taught him to stay unaffected.
Yogot also urged his peers and aspiring artists to take cues from Shatta Wale if they aspire to be successful in the music industry.
