The Eastern Regional election of executives for the National Democratic Congress was not as smooth as was expected.
The electoral process was stalled for several hours following a collective decision by the various constituency chairmen demanding the payment of their transport fares from the election committee before allowing their members to vote.

This action by the Chairmen delayed the process until 5.30 pm before the voting process began after the intervention and sorting out of their demands by some senior national executives of the party.
In a bizarre twist, a power interruption forced the election committee and officers from the Regional Electoral Commission to conduct the process with torchlight and lights from their mobile phones after electricity supply was cut off from the Apeguso Senior High School where a total of 996 delegates were gathered and were still voting with counting expected to prolong into midnight.

A number of National executives and former government officials including National Vice Chairman, Ofosu Ampofo and Deputy general Secretary Koku Anyidoho were present to support and supervise the elections.
Plaincloth men and officers in uniform from the Ghana Police Service were firmly on the grounds to prevent any possible chaos.
