Dobgoe’s camp: Royal Storm will blow Navarrete away in rematch

Paul Dogboe, father and trainer of dethroned World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super bantamweight champion, Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe, has warned Emanuel Navarrete to expect fireworks in their rematch, which is slated for May 11, in Arizona.

The trainer cautioned Navarrete to expect a much fit and prepared boxer in Dogboe in their second ring outing as compared to his struggles last year.

Dogboe, who lost his invincibility in the ring to Navarrete during his second title defence last December in New York, is currently at camp, preparing feverishly for the upcoming Top Rank Promotions duel on May 11.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Paul explained that the training camp in Keta had been the best and was hopeful that his son would reclaim the title when they slugged it out.

He, however, asked their opponent camp to expect a much dangerous Dogboe in the second fight as he believed preparations were going on as planned as they looked to snatch the title once again.

“We are preparing well for the rematch after our loss in the last fight and I can tell you that everything is going on as planned.

“All I can say is that Navarrete should expect to see a much fit Dogboe this time around and everyone knows how dangerous he is when he is in the best of conditions,” Paul noted.

Dogboe (20-1, 14 KOs) lost unanimously to Navarrete (26-1, 22 KOs) in his fourth bout of 2018 despite having the best of year when he defeated the likes of Cesar Juarez, Jessie Magdaleno and Hidenori Otake.

His surprised defeat at the hands of Navarrete in his second title defence shocked the entire nation having just held on to the title for eight months after stopping Magdaleno in 11 rounds to clinch the belt in April last year.

When asked about concerns raised by the general public and some stakeholders in the sport against Dogboe’s immediate rematch with Navarrete, Paul rubbished those claims, stating that the camp had advisors who were well placed in the sport.

He questioned why people would ask his son to go for a contest before taking up a rematch with the Mexican when Dogboe could equally lose in that bout just as they perceived.

“I don’t buy their assertions because we equally have advisors who tell us what to do in situations like this and we all concluded that this was the best decision at hand.

“Remember, what will those people say should my son lose in that preparatory contest they are talking about,” he asked.
