Curfew imposed on Nakpachie after violent clash over a pig

A six-to-six curfew has been imposed on residents of Nakpachie and its surrounding villages in the Yendi municipality after a violent clash over a pig led to the death of one person Thursday.

Residents have also banned from carrying carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon, the decision by the Interior Minister which was based on the advice of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council said.

According to police report, the clash began after a farmer shot a pig dead for destroying his farm produce.

This did not go down well with the owner of the pig, leading to a confrontation between the two.

The disagreement later escalated to friends and allies of the two who clashed and in the process, a 50-year of Chief Imam within the community was shot. Some homes were also burnt down in the process.

It is on the back of the incident that a curfew has been imposed on the Nakpachie community and its environs.

A statement signed by the Interior Minister Ambros Dery, said any person found with arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.

Government has meanwhile called on the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth groups and people of the area to exercise restraint.
