Democrat Union of Africa elects its youngest chairperson, Ghanaian Louisa Atta-Agyemang

Louisa Atta-Agyemang from Ghana has made history by becoming the youngest Chairperson of the Democrat Union of Africa (DUA), a coalition of center-right political parties across the continent.

Her election was unanimous, with 21 political parties casting their votes, and she received an impressive 90% of the support.

Louisa, who also holds the position of Deputy Chief Executive for Operations at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has received warm congratulations from DUA members. They have expressed their commitment to supporting her in this new leadership role.

Her election follows the successful hosting of the DUA’s 2024 Forum in Accra on August 8, 2024.

The Forum, themed “Strengthening Democratic Institutions for Political Stability: Crafting Africa’s Response,” was a resounding success and attracted significant attention.

Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, served as the Guest Speaker at the event, which was widely praised for its excellent planning and execution.

As the Convener of the Forum, Louisa Atta-Agyemang led a collaborative effort that brought together center-right thought leaders and political parties, including the Forum for Democratic Change (Uganda), Inkatha Freedom Party (South Africa), Unity Party (Liberia), PDCI-RDA (Ivory Coast), Popular Democratic Movement (Namibia), The Third Republic Party (Tunisia), RENAMO (Mozambique), Kenya African National Union (Kenya), Forces Démocratiques Pour La République (Togo), UNITA (Angola), CHADEMA (Tanzania), and many others.

The 2024 DUA Forum, held in Accra, covered a variety of crucial topics related to Africa’s political stability and democratic governance. Key speakers at the event included Louisa Atta-Agyemang, Hon. Tony Peter Clement (former Canadian Minister of Industry and President of the Treasury Board), Mr. Peter Mac Manu (former National Chairman of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party), and Prof. Mohammed Haruna (Deputy General Secretary of the NPP).

Ahead of the Forum, the DUA delegation visited President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is the Patron of the Union, underscoring the event’s importance.

Louisa Atta-Agyemang’s election as Chairperson is a significant achievement for the Democrat Union of Africa, and her leadership is expected to drive the Union’s goals of enhancing democratic institutions and ensuring political stability across the continent.
