5 key things that were said in the State of the Nation address

As mandated by the constitution, the president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, met parliament to deliver his third state of the nations address. 

In his address, he highlighted what his government has been able to achieve so far, their challenges and the projects they have in the pipeline, that are yet to be rolled out.

YEN.com.gh has however noted some key things the president talked about. These areas centre on different sectors of his government. 

1. 62nd Independence anniversary celebrations

The president in his address said, as part of efforts to reinforce the unity that recently was established in the Dagbon state, the celebration of independence would be moved to the Northern Regional capital.

This is the first time the celebrations have been moved out of Accra. 

2. Solar Panels

The president also said the Jubilee House from August 2019, would be powered by solar energy as an example to others.

This according to the president would serve as an example to others and also help reduce money spent to power the place. 

3. New curriculum from KG to Primary 6

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament that the new curriculum has been drawn from “best practice all over the world.”

He said since there are no shortcuts to having an educated and skilled workforce, the new curriculum will focus on making Ghanaian children confident, innovative, creative thinkers, digitally literate and well-rounded patriotic citizens. 

4. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) 

The President also announced that all is set for the construction of 10 Technical and Vocational Education and Training centres in 2019. 

He said the new TVET centres would be world class and well-equipped to assure young people that they are not being sent to second-best options. 

5. Recycling plant at Agbogbloshie 

President Akufo-Addo also said the government would establish a state-of-the-art recycling plant at Agbogbloshie. 

He said the construction of the plant would start in April 2019. He stated that punitive measures will be ruled out to all who create filth in our cities.
