Dan Kwaku Yeboah advises Kwasi Appiah to reject Asante Kotoko coaching job

Former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has been persuaded by sports journalist Daniel Kwaku Yeboah to turn down an offer from Asante Kotoko to lead the team.

Dan Kwaku Yeboah said that the Porcupines do not intend to make the necessary investments in the team to develop a formidable team for the manager and that, ultimately, the supporters will turn against him and damage the reputation he has worked so hard to establish.

“You were part of the squad that the African Cup in 1983. You’ve coached Black Stars and made a name for yourself. I’m like your younger sibling and the advice I would give you is that, don’t make a mistake by accepting the Kotoko job.

Because Kotoko have no plans of investing and buying top players. They will dent the good reputation you’ve built and insult you. Capito, as your younger brother, this is my opinion,” he said on his YouTube channel.

According to reports, former Ghanaian international and ex-Black Stars coach James Kwasi Appiah met with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Although the purpose of the meeting has not been officially announced, there are speculations that Appiah could be appointed as the next coach of Asante Kotoko on a long-term contract.

Appiah has a history with Asante Kotoko, having previously served as an assistant coach from 1992 to 1995 before taking on the role of head coach from 1995 to 1996. He also had a stint as Ghana’s assistant coach from 2007 to 2012, working under Claude le Roy and Milovan Rajevac.

In recent years, Appiah has held coaching positions with Kenpong Football Academy from 2021 to 2023, as well as managing Sudanese side Al Khartoum. He also served as the head coach of the Black Stars for a third time between 2017 and 2020.
