Kotoko’s Danlad Ibrahim should have been Black Satellites No.1 goalkeeper – Damba

Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Abukari Damba says Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim should have been the No. 1 at the ongoing Africa Youth Championship in Niger for the Black Satellites.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko shot-stopper Danlad Ibrahim should have been the first choice goalkeeper of the Black Satellites team at the ongoing 2019 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Niger, according to former Ghana international Abukari Damba.

The enterprising glovesman left his mark with the national U-17 side by clinching silver medal during the 2017 Africa Junior Championship in Gabon. He later guided his side to the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in India following an impressive performance in between the sticks with the Starlets.

This, the former Real Tamale United goal post custodian, believes has positioned the 16-year-old goal tender to man the post for the Black Satellites side during their campaign at the biennial tournament in Niger.

“where was his starting point, is it not from Kotoko? He built on and you saw him, then took him to U-17 and he performed marvelously well,” Damba bellowed in an interview with Kumasi-based Otec FM

“What again makes him young! What again! He has had the exposure and what has then left?,” he continued ranting.

“We were all looking up to this young man and if it could be recalled, l made a whole lot of analysis on Danlad so far as his career is concerned when he was with the U-17 side. I talked about his future goalkeeping career with regards to his progression to the senior national team,”

“I said we should help him by making sure that we raise him systematically but very, very cautiously. They should not rush in his progression from U17 to U20 and then to U23. But then we will see progressively what we are supposed to do,”

“We have been complaining that we do not have very good keepers and with this young chap l look at him and l picture Ali Jara, l look at him and l see Samy Adjei and Osei Kwame and co. at their youthful ages,”

“You took the young man to the tournament and you say he is young. Danlad should have been the number at the tournament or at least the starter for the last game. He should have been given the nod and now look at the mess being caused and why?”
